nThe title alone-I Killed a Man-stops you cold. It's not a confession but a metaphor. To survive nearly five years of wrongful incarceration in Hays County Jail, Cyrus Gray (Xyrus) had to kill the versions of himself consumed by anger, fear, and despair.

What emerges is a memoir of survival, transformation, and truth.n nArrested in 2018 and accused of capital murder, Xyrus had no connection to the victim. Yet he spent 1,785 days in pretrial detention, enduring police violence, isolation, and the grinding uncertainty of a justice system built to break him. Inside his cell, he fought battles with mental health, confronted systemic abuse, and searched for faith in the dark.

Writing became survival, storytelling became therapy, and resilience became his only weapon.n nI Killed a Man takes readers behind the bars of Hays County Jail, where the clang of doors and suffocating silence serve as reminders of a life stolen. It reveals the toll of wrongful imprisonment-the sleepless nights, the paranoia, the small acts of rebellion that keep hope alive. But it is also a story of brotherhood, self-discovery, and spiritual awakening.

To reclaim his life, Xyrus had to bury the broken identities forced upon him and rebuild from within.n nThis memoir is not only about one man's ordeal-it's about America's broken justice system. It exposes the racial disparities, the dehumanizing jail conditions, and the devastating cost of prolonged pretrial detention. Yet it also offers something more: a blueprint for resilience and a call to action.n nSince his release, Xyrus has become an advocate, artist manager, and public speaker, dedicating his voice to those still silenced behind bars.

Through this book, he extends an invitation: to see the humanity in the incarcerated, to confront injustice, and to believe in redemption even in the darkest places.n nI Killed a Man is for anyone who has faced hardship, lost themselves, and fought to return stronger. It is raw, poetic, and unflinching-a rallying cry for justice and a testament to the human spirit's capacity to transform pain into purpose.n
